Stuff Magazine Review

Stuff Magazine have a great review of the Wii Console in November's edition. Here's what they have to say:

Wii Console Pros:

  • Easy on the Eye and on the wallet;
  • An innovative remote control-style controller which "makes gaming more intuitive ... dispelling gaming's image as a couch potato activity";
  • It has a rumble pack and a speaker for further feedback;
  • Wii Channel helps place the console at the centre of family life with web browsing, news, weather and family messages available on it;
  • It's backwards compatible with GameCube games, controllers and memory cards as well has having an online database of Nintendo gaming and Sega Genesis classics through Wii Channel.
  • There will be several key titles available at launch such as Metroid, Mario and Zelda.

Wii Console Cons:

  • Although the graphics will be significantly better than the GameCube, the Wii will not offer hi-def gaming which may be a deal breaker for many hard-core fans;
  • Some people may be annoyed with having to swap games controllers for different games;
  • There is a very high level of sensitivity for the games controller, but for some games such as Zelda you need more of a steady hand.
  • The Wii lacks both the PS3 and XBox 360 media hub functionality as it has only limited, solid-state memory for a start - although it will play DVD-video discs.

Stuff says "Things you didn't know" about the Wii console:

  • IBM helped develop the Wii's processor, using a 90nm SOI CMOS process;
  • The processor runs at 730MHz - but it's not necessarily inferior to its rivals;
  • The wireless controller runs on AA batteries which lasts between 30 and 60 hours.
