The good 'ole Beeb, like most media love bashing something successful and that's what it looks like they're doing with the Wii.

They've a page about how we've got to return the straps on the Wii Remote because some have had the "the wrist straps breaking during use, leading to the controller slipping out of hands, smashing TVs and windows."

The important part, however, is:

Nintendo said the straps do not present a problem if used correctly, but will
still replace all broken ones for free.

Basically, you have to use them properly, but the nice guys at Nintendo are covering people that can't read the multitude of warning screens and the instructions.
